2.Some Basic Functions
Goal
The First Three Buttons
Top

The Workmate Control Centre and the first three buttons in the top left hand corner of the tool bar is all that is needed to drive the system. It really is almost that simple. Yes, you guessed it, the first three buttons are Explorer, Schedulex and Visualx. We will look at each of these parts of the system in subsequent sections of the Tour.

There are, of course, several other parts of the program that you will want to get to from time to time like suppliers, spare parts, planned maintenance setup and so on, but you will see that all of these sections of the system can be simply accessed by pressing the appropriate button in the tool bar.

Press some of these buttons now and have a look at the windows that open. To close a window, press the close button in the task bar.

Re-Open Workmate Control Centre
You may, by mistake, close the Workmate Control Centre window. If you do, go to the menu option Utilities and choose the first one in the list called Workmate Control Centre to re-open your Workmate Control Centre window.
Common Functions
Top
There are several functions in Workmate that are common to most windows. We have looked at the tool bar and task bar, so lets have a look at the some of the other ones.
You may like to open the Parts Setup window (as shown above) by pressing the Parts button in the tool bar. It is also possible to open the same window by choosing Application/Parts from the menu bar. The second method of getting to the same place takes more than twice as long, so using the buttons is far better.
Opening a Window for the First Time
Top

If you have just opened a window for the first time you will most likely find that the whole screen is blank. This does not mean that there is nothing there. If you look in the bottom right hand corner of the window you will see the Control Panel has some text that tells you what is in the window you have just opened.

It may say Item 0 of 48. Or, as in the case shown above it reads Item 354 0f 1594

To find an item it is really very simple.

Control Panel
Top

The Control Panel lets you step your way through the database of information in an item by item fashion.

Will take you directly to the first entry.

Will take you directly to the last entry.

Will take you to the next entry.

Will take you to the previous entry.

Take some time to step your way through the items that are listed in the window you have open.

The Control Panel also is the place where you can save new entries, delete old ones and clear the screen ready to create a new entry. There are some special conditions relating to deleting entries which are detailed in the manual.

The Control Panel is not the only place you can choose to view a an item.

Select Window

The Select Window lets you view a list of items rather than scroll through them one by one. Every field that has an 'open folder' icon, as shown, will have a Select Window associated with it. Select windows display a list of all entries for the field listed. eg Parts, Assets, Locations, Suppliers etc.

Opening A Select Window

To look at information in the Asset window using a select window, use the following method.

  1. From the key board press the F4 function key, when the cursor is in the required field. or..
  2. Double-click the left mouse button, while holding the mouse pointer over the required Item ID field.

This will open the Select window. A window similar to the Select Asset window will be displayed.

Find Function

There is a Find field at the head of the select window. To use it,

  1. On entry to the Select Window the cursor will appear the Find field automatically.
  2. Type the letter C in the Find field. The entry CAR will be highlighted. Or the first entry beginning with C
  3. Type in the letters L1C01, and the entry 'Conveyor 01 Line #1' will be highlighted.
  4. Press the Enter key, OK button or double click on the entry. This will close the Select Window, and return you to the Asset window along with the details of the highlighted entry.

Use this function to quickly find what you are looking for in the database. This is especially useful when Workmate has several hundred, or thousands of entries.

Sorting A Select Window
Auto Sort

If the titles in the selection list are grey, simply press on the title and Workmate will automatically sort the select window for the title clicked.

Red Text in First Field (ID Codes)
Top

Each window has what is called a primary key or ID Code. The red text lets you know that this is the main ID Code for the window you have open. The ID Code is a unique identifier that can only be used once in the system.

If the screen is blank (or you press the Clear button in the Control Panel) and you start typing in the first field in the window (ID Code) the text will be red. You are now beginning to enter in a new entry into the system for the window you have open.

If you press Save or Close, Workmate will prompt you to fill out some additional fields that the system requires you to complete when entering a new item.

f you have all of these 'required fields' fields completed, Workmate will save the entry and clear the screen.

To view the item you have just entered in, use the methods described in this Tour.

Dropdown List Boxes
Top

Dropdown list boxes are easily identifiable by the arrow that is placed at the right hand end of the field.

The purpose of the Dropdown list boxes is so that you can define your own working criteria for your plant using terms and options that are appropriate to you industry or task. Dropdown list boxes enable you to capture information in a specific and sortable format that helps when defining what type of activity is taking place or what specific faults have caused problems in your plant.

All Dropdown list boxes within Workmate have entries in them that you can define yourself. We won't go into any details at this point, however, to access the place where you define what is in a Dropdown list box choose Application/Reference Codes from the menu and a list of all of the Dropdown (Reference Code) list boxes will be displayed. You may like to open one or two of these now.

If you have made a change to a reference code item and saved it, the changes you made will now be visible throughout Workmate wherever that Dropdown list box appears.

Calendars
Top

Double click with the left mouse button while on any Date field, or press F4 while the cursor is in the date field. The current month's calendar will be displayed, with a highlight on the current date.

  1. Use the arrows to the left and right of the month to change the month. ·
  2. Double click with the left mouse button while pointing on the desired date to place that date in the field.

If you have trouble selecting a date beyond the 12th of any month, your setting for Windows Date and Time will need to be altered. To do this go Start/Settings/Control Panel. Choose the icon labelled Regional and select the Date tab. In the Short date style field type in dd/mm/yy.

Press OK.

Summary
Top
By now you should be able to use the tool bar, task bar and menu bar to open and close windows. You should be able to scroll through the entries in a window and use the Select Window to search for and view an asset or item of your choosing. You should be able to enter a new item into the your system and have an understanding of reference codes, how to use them and know that you can define your own reference codes according to you needs.
